Bobby Godsell, business leader.

Bobby has 34 years of experience draws from across South Africa’s extractive industries – mining and energy in particular - having served as Director, CEO and Deputy Chair of Anglo American, Anglo Gold Ashanti and Chair of Eskom. He served as President of the Chamber of Mines and Chair of Business Leadership South Africa.  Bobby currently chairs Polymetal International plc and Optimum Coal Holdings. He served as non-executive director of Anglo American Corporation, the IDC  and other listed companies.  He is a member of South Africa’s National Planning Committee and Co-Chairman of the South African Millennium Labour Council.

Bobby Godsell was described as "a visionary, that has done much to shape the destiny of both the South African labour relations landscape and that of AngloGold Ashanti" by then-chairman of AngloGold Ashanti, Russell Edey.   Together with James Motlatsi, he founded Citizens South Africa in 2013, to promote and support active citizenship and ethical behaviour in all sectors of society. 

Bobby undertook postgraduate studies in Sociology and Philosophy at Leiden University in the Netherlands. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Philosophy from the University of Natal and a Master of Arts in Liberal Ethics from the University of Cape Town.
